My name is Petteri Heinonen, and this is my personal combined blog and portfolio site. I use this to document my endeavours in the world of business and IT.

The purpose of this site is to write down my learnings as I experiment with and learn various software and tools, technologies, and ecosystems. The idea is simple: since I enjoy working with this stuff anyway, why not document it a bit as I go? Who knows if I’m even able to come up with some information genuinely helpful to someone. Plus, this site is intended to also demonstrate what I could offer to anyone interested in hiring me or contracting services from Eangineer Consulting.

Most of the topics discussed will relate, one way or the other, to my professional endeavours. However, every now and them, I might also sidetrack to some of the hobby projects or interests of mine.

About Me

As an IT professional and enterprise architect, I have always enjoyed working with computers, new technologies, protocol stacks, business systems, and data platforms – everything involving bits and bytes. Over the years, my professional roles have evolved towards IT leadership and architecture. While these topics are exciting and rewarding in their own right, I have also always taken great pride in remaining close to technology, combining practical and pragmatic engagement with the more abstract perspectives.

My current and latest roles have been deeply in business systems, IT leadership, and enterprise architecture. That being said, my true passion lies in tying together these more abstract phases of technology initiatives with concrete, pragmatic, hands-on implementation efforts. I find the most fulfillment in working end-to-end, starting with mapping out the business requirements together with stakeholders, planning the architecture and design, and eventually realizing these plans. Witnessing the impact on businesses’ goals after being able to contribute to the team’s effort throughout the initiative meaningfully is what I strive for.

Being able to go abstract and communicate complex topics to a broad spectrum of different audiences with different backgrounds and skill sets is essential for the success of any IT project. However, I feel seeing things only through the confined aperture of Excel reports and high-level PowerPoint presentations is a risky position for anyone willing to make a truly significant impact in such endeavors. Thus, I have always wanted to make sure I remain close enough and sufficiently knowledgeable of the technologies I’m supposed to be architecting with.

As for hobbies, I enjoy playing around with electronics and vintage computers. One long-lasting project I have ongoing is to build an 8-bit CPU using standard electronics components (see Build an 8-bit computer from scratch by Ben Eater). On vintage computing side, I’m in process of learning VGA programming in assemby, using genuine 90s’ 80486 hardware and Borland Turbo Assembler. Maybe more on these later.
